I`ve heard that hanging a clear bag of water in a room repels flies...how does this work?

Take a sandwhich bag and half full it with water; drop a penny in it and hang it on the outside or inside of home where most of the flies are and this will keep the flies away because they will see the penny and bag and think danger!I`ve heard that hanging a clear bag of water in a room repels flies...how does this work?

It's probably another myth.
I think this is due to level of moisture in the air. As the water in the clear bag evaporates increasing the moisture level in the air, the flies find it difficult to fly because of their body weight.


Same reason holds if you put the water in an open vessel.
Clear water works as a filter system for the air, so having a bag of water in the room filters the air,, even a bowl can also work. So with the air clear the flies are not so keen on going near it since the clear air has a different scent to it.
